Michaeline DeJoria, daughter of co-founder John Paul DeJoria, grew up in Los Angeles and often visited her father's office as a young girl. Today, as CEO of John Paul Mitchell Systems, she leads all brands within the company.

She began her career in various departments to learn the company from the inside out. This experience still forms the basis of her leadership: structured, goal-oriented, and always seeking improvement and new opportunities.

In addition to her business role, Michaeline is a passionate traveler and actively involved in philanthropic projects, including children's initiatives, schools in Los Angeles, and health and research programs.

General Manager

Jason Yates began his career as a hairdresser in the U.K. more than three decades ago. He worked his way up from salon apprentice to manager, and ultimately to managing director of a twenty-two-salon group. During this time, he also performed as a platform artist and educator for a hair care company, exposing him to another side of the industry and evolving his career beyond the salon floor.

In 2012, Jason joined JPMS as Vice President of Marketing, leading the marketing strategy for all brands. He later expanded his role, becoming the first Vice President of Sales and Marketing in company history. With hands-on experience in every facet of the professional beauty business, from hairstyling and business management to marketing and sales, Jason was appointed General Manager of JPMS. In that role, he is responsible for the day-to-day global operations of the company.

His path from hairdresser to top executive may seem unusual. Jason says: “We are in an amazing industry that can allow us to grow in many different directions, especially if you are a young professional stylist. While my career may not be the typical path for a hairdresser, it is certainly one that is possible.”

Meet our Co-founder and Chairman

Meet our Co-founder and Chairman

John Paul DeJoria was born on April 13, 1944, in East Los Angeles. After graduating from high school and serving in the U.S. Navy, John Paul co-founded John Paul Mitchell Systems with his business partner, Paul Mitchell. Since then, he has launched several global ventures, including Patrón Tequila, and invested in successful companies across various sectors, such as Discovery Land Company, ROKiT, and Round 2 Spirits, LLC.

Philanthropy is John Paul’s greatest passion. Throughout his career, he has supported hundreds of charities. In 2009, he founded Grow Appalachia, a non-profit organization dedicated to combating food insecurity in Central Appalachia. Two years later, he signed The Giving Pledge and established the JP’s Peace, Love & Happiness Foundation, focusing on investments in people, animal welfare, and environmental conservation.

As an advocate for ocean conservation, John Paul works closely with Captain Paul Watson in the fight against illegal whaling. He recently commissioned the construction of the vessel M/Y John Paul DeJoria II, which began its first campaign in 2023 to prevent the illegal hunting of fin whales. Additionally, he is a co-founder of The Ocean Shot, an initiative dedicated to coral reef restoration.

John Paul’s life was the focus of the 2017 documentary Good Fortune, which won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Sedona Film Festival.

In memory of Angus Mitchell (1970–2024)

Angus Mitchell was born on October 16, 1970, in New York. As a fourth-generation hairdresser, he had an unwavering passion for the craft. He was trained at Vidal Sassoon and worked as a hairdresser and educator. In 2009, he opened his own salon in Beverly Hills.

Following the passing of his father, Paul Mitchell, in 1989, Angus took on the role of co-owner of John Paul Mitchell Systems. The loss of his father inspired his philanthropic work with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN), an organization dedicated to fighting pancreatic cancer through research, clinical initiatives, patient care, and advocacy.

In addition, Angus was committed to human rights, conservation, and environmental scientific research. For example, he donated historical coastal areas in Hawaii to The Nature Conservancy and the Edith K. Kanaka'ole Foundation.

His joyful and generous spirit will forever be part of the JPMS family's legacy.

In memory of Paul Mitchell (1936-1989)

Our co-founder, Paul Mitchell, was born in Carnwath, Scotland, in 1936. His mother was the village's first hairdresser, and at sixteen, Paul followed in her footsteps by enrolling at the Morris School of Hairdressing in London. With his exceptional talent and sharp, innovative vision, Paul quickly revolutionized the hairdressing industry.

Under the guidance of the legendary Vidal Sassoon, Paul built an impressive career. He became one of the most sought-after hairdressers and educators in the salon world. His breakthrough was partly driven by the dozens of international training sessions and demonstrations he conducted.

Paul introduced the concept of "wash and wear" hair. Using only his hands and Sculpting Lotion, he showed how to create simple and versatile styles. Additionally, he transformed haircutting demonstrations into true artistic performances, using unconventional props such as surgical tape and balloons. In doing so, he not only inspired his audience but also entertained them—earning him the reputation of a great showman.

Paul also had a strong passion for sustainability and pushing boundaries with innovative ideas. We continue his legacy through initiatives focused on philanthropy and the well-being of our planet.
